Chorus Pool Party

The Choral Council is sponsoring a pool party on Tuesday, August 7^th from 6:30-9:00 pm.   This is just an event for chorus members, so please don’t invite any additional guests J
We will provide food and drinks.  Make sure you bring a suit and a towel if you are planning to get in the pool.

This is a great opportunity to meet some of your peers before school starts. . . so we hope to see everyone there!

Ensemble Placement

Thank you to everyone who completed the placement audition.  Hearing all of you individually has gotten me even more excited about Cambridge Chorus!  We will have two choral ensembles next year.  Cantabile is the name of the mixed class and Chanson is the name of the women’s class.  Please email Ms. Petite if you would like to know in which ensemble you were placed.

Audition Update

Students planning on joining Cambridge Chorus should audition with Ms. Petite to determine class placement.  Not only does this ensure that students are in the correct ensemble, it enables Ms. Petite and the Chorus Student Officers to plan for an amazing beginning of the school year!  If you have not yet sung for Ms. Petite, please contact her ASAP to set up an audition time at cambridgehighchorus@gmail.com

Want to be a Leader?

            Being a Chorus Council officer is one way to serve and have a say in the goings-on of Cambridge Chorus.  Officers will help plan and organize monthly social events, bi-annual service projects and design spirit-wear.  To be considered for an officer position, please fill out the Chorus Council Officer Application.  Email me at: cambridgehighchorus@gmail.com if you need an application.  You can submit your completed application via email or you can bring it with you when you do your placement audition.   May 15^th is the deadline by which all applications must be received.  In addition to officers, each class will have a secretary, librarian and historian.  These roles will be decided upon after school starts in the fall.

Cambridge Chorus FAQs

1.       Will there be auditions for chorus at Cambridge?

Yes.  Please don’t worry; auditions are not to keep people out of chorus.  They are to ensure proper ensemble placement.  

2.       What is the placement audition like?

Students will sing scales- Major, minor and chromatic

1 or 2 sight-reading examples similar to middle school All-State examples

Vocalization- to determine range

3.       How long will the placement audition take?

5-10 minutes

4.       Do I need to bring anything with me when I do my placement audition?

Yes.  Please bring the completed audition form, signed by your parent/guardian.

5.       Where and when will the placement auditions be?

Hopewell Middle School students will audition:  March 27-29 (see Mrs. Fallis to sign up)
Northwestern Middle School students will audition:  March 30, during Connections
Alpharetta and Milton students should contact Ms. Petite to set up an audition time

6.       What kind of chorus classes will there be next year?

Until we finish placement auditions and scheduling, it’s impossible to have a definite answer.  My plan is that we will offer a range of classes based on ability and experience.

Welcome to Cambridge Chorus!

Dear Cambridge Choristers,

            I am honored and extremely excited to be joining the Cambridge faculty!  Starting a new school is a big responsibility for us all.  We, the students, parents and staff will set the tone for the school for years to come.  Our tradition of excellence will begin in the fall!
            I was able to meet several future Cambridge singers on March 21, and I’m looking forward to meeting even more of you in the next few weeks.  Whether you are a rising 9^th grader or transferring from another high school, please know that there is a place for you in the Cambridge Choral department.  As we finish auditions, we’ll have a better idea about scheduling and placement, so stay tuned!

Ms. Petite

Meet the Director

            Dominique Petite received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Florida State University in Choral Music Education, where she studied conducting with Judy Bowers, André Thomas and Kevin Fenton and voice with Barbara Ford and Roy Delp.  She has 10 years of teaching experience at the middle and high school levels, most recently at Brookwood High School in Gwinnett County, where she taught Chorus, AP Music Theory and Intro to Theatre. 
            While at Brookwood, Ms. Petite prepared choirs for performance at the GMEA State Conference.  Her choral groups consistently receive Superior ratings at LGPE for both Performance and Sight-Reading.  Her students have enjoyed success individually as well, attending the Governor’s Honors Program in voice as well as having a high level of participation in All-State Chorus, All-State Reading Chorus and ACDA Honor Choirs.  Many of Ms. Petite’s former students are majoring in the performing arts in college.  She has sent students to nationally recognized universities, as well as outstanding Georgia schools, including The University of the Arts, Montclair State University, Belmont University, Florida State University, Mercer University, Georgia Southern University and The University of Georgia. 
            In addition to teaching, Ms. Petite has adjudicated for GMEA Solo/Ensemble festival and has been a guest clinician for Metro-Atlanta choral groups.  She is a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Chamber Chorus and has traveled with the ASOC to perform in Miami, New York (Carnegie Hall) and Berlin (with the Berlin Philharmonic).  Ms. Petite’s husband, Amit is an engineer and a professional Tabla player.  She and her husband enjoy traveling, cooking (and eating!), gardening and spending time with their two cats, Pepper and Mouse!
